Flatracks Introduction
Flatracks are big steel frames to which Over Dimensional Cargo(ODC) or Cargo that cannot be loaded into standard containers because of weight restrictions are mounted and fastened. The flatrack is then securely fixed to the ocean-going vessel on which the equipment is to be transported. The end walls are metallic and stable enough for heavy cargo to be secured onto it and several such flatracks can be stacked on top of each other. A number of lashing rings, to which the cargo may be secured, are installed in the side rails, the corner posts and the floor.
Xpertpack specialises in creating and designing efficient packaging systems for securing heavy loads and machinery on flatrack by using a combination of tying and lashing, wood bracing for choking and using steel chains and binders.
Flatrack Packaging involves the following steps
The cargo has to be firmly secured to the metal frame using Nylon or Metal Straps. Forces in all directions need to be balanced keeping in mind the center of gravity of the load
Most 40 feet flatrack lashing rings can take up 8,000kg weight so it is important to design the lashing system accordingly
Weather-proofing material should be used to cover the cargo if it is sensitive.
All equipment breaching the walls of the flatrack should be protected and marked
